A night of meaning and celebration
2026-04-24 at 18:22:13By Khai Hung LuongThis Tết season, our team had the honour of performing at the Vietnam Education Society (VES) charity event, a meaningful gathering dedicated to supporting education for children in rural and remote areas of Vietnam. VES has worked to improve educational opportunities through projects such as building schools, libraries, and learning spaces, with over $2.5 million raised and 18 educational buildings supported to date (https://vietnameducation.ca/).
We arrived early at 3:00 PM to set up, run soundcheck, test instruments, and prepare for the evening. To match the formal Tết theme, all members wore áo dài, bringing a warm Vietnamese cultural spirit to the event. After setup, we shared a meal together to recharge before the performance.
The program began with the MC introducing VES, the event slides, and the purpose behind the fundraiser, followed by an energetic lion dance that opened the night with festive energy. After that, our team performed five songs and two dance performances, including Baby One More Time, My Heart Will Go On with a short skit, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, and a dance mashup of Smooth Criminal x Buttons. During dinner, we also played soft instrumental/no-lyrical music so guests could enjoy their meal and conversations in a relaxed atmosphere.
One of the highlights of the evening was our áo dài showcase, where members were introduced in two groups, celebrating both Vietnamese tradition and youthful creativity. Our dancers brought energy to the stage with lively, passionate performances that helped brighten the atmosphere.
The audience, mostly adults, enjoyed the performances calmly and warmly.
Throughout the night, some of our members also interviewed the organizers, asking about their feelings, the event atmosphere, and the meaning behind the fundraiser. We were grateful to hear that they were impressed by our performance and appreciated our song choices, especially elegant pieces such as Fly Me to the Moon.
An honorable mention to our staged member:
Thank you to VES for giving us the opportunity to contribute our music, dance, and spirit to such a meaningful cause. It was a beautiful evening of culture, community, and giving back — celebrating Tết while helping build brighter futures for children in Vietnam.
